S.S.U.3 & S.S.U. 10 - 27 months 1915-1916-1917, February 1, 1915, to May 1916; August 1916 to 1917 (Retuned from Salonica August 21, 1917); Served in Alsace, Verdun and Salonika; On July 23, 1915, the Transportation Committee appointed Fenton Mechanical Officer for SSU 3, stationed in the Vosges, France, where he oversaw approximately twenty-two Ford ambulances during the most severe fighting. In 1916 the French government awarded Fenton the Croix de Guerre for his distinguished service in Alsace.

April 4, 1915, left Juilly for St. Maurice (Vosges) and attached to French 66th D.I. July 1915 was placed in charge of SSU 3 as a replacement for Richard Lawrence. February 1916, section was transferred to French 20th Corps, then to repair park for repairs. April 1916, section attached to French 129th D.I. in Malzville sector. Followed Division to Verdun June 22 to July 1, 1916, then to Pont-à-Mousson. September, left 129 D.I. to go to Salonica, arriving end of October 1916. Attached to 57th D.I. in Monastir sector November 1916 to May 1917. Accompanied French Expeditionary Force to Thessaly. Greece May to June 1917. Attached to Serbian Division in Cerna Bend, July 1917. August 1917 returned to French Division (42nd D.I.C.) at Monastir. August 16, 1917, left to return to France. Resigned from American Field Service October 22, 1917.
